Strath Steps is a step-tracking and leaderboard web application operated by the University of Strathclyde Sport department ("we", "us", "the University"). By creating an account and using Strath Steps, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the platform.
Strath Steps is intended for use by University of Strathclyde staff and students, and by other individuals explicitly invited to participate in a specific challenge or pilot programme. You must be able to form a legally binding agreement to create an account.
When using Strath Steps, you agree not to:
We reserve the right to remove step or activity entries, disqualify results, or suspend accounts that breach this section.
Our collection and use of your personal data, including step and fitness data, is governed by our Privacy Notice and Data Retention Policy, which form part of these Terms. By using Strath Steps, you also agree to those documents.
Strath Steps allows you to optionally connect third-party fitness services, currently Google Health (covering Fitbit devices and Google Pixel Watches), with Strava and Garmin planned for the future. Your use of those third-party services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, not ours. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or conduct of any third-party service. You can disconnect a connected service at any time from your account settings.
Strath Steps is currently operated as a pilot programme. We do not guarantee that the service will be available at all times, free from errors, or free from interruption, and features may be added, changed, or removed as the platform develops. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of any significant changes or planned downtime where practical.
We may suspend or terminate your access to Strath Steps if you breach these Terms, misuse the platform, or if required to do so for legal, security, or operational reasons. You may delete your own account at any time from your profile settings, which will permanently remove your account and associated personal data as described in our Data Retention Policy.
Strath Steps is provided as a wellness and engagement tool and is not a medical device or health monitoring service. Step counts, whether logged manually or synced from a connected device, should not be relied upon for medical purposes. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the University is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, Strath Steps, including reliance on inaccurate step data from a connected third-party device. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify users via the app before the changes take effect. Continued use of Strath Steps after such notification constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
Questions about these Terms can be sent to stepcount@strath.ac.uk. For formal data protection queries, contact dataprotection@strath.ac.uk.
